Chianti Classico, owned by the Favaro family is a delightful little Italian restaurant in the city. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week. Most impressively they were awarded best breakfast in 2009 by the Restaurant & Catering Association of Australia. Upon discovering this, I decided to make a visit and I was not disappointed.

The Food

• The pancakes were the highlight of the morning being light, fluffy and melt-in-mouth.
• The steak was cooked to perfect medium rare and complemented the mustard sauce flawlessly. The fried egg was free range from the Cleland Gully SA
• The tasting platter was another winner as it featured three small portions of muesli, waffle and frittata so is perfect for someone who wants to try a bit of everything
• The coffee was also superb, the way a real Italian espresso should be – rich and aromatic with a lingering flavour.

Citrus is located in the cosmopolitan Hutt Street in the city, which is known for its fine breakfasts. The restaurant was established in 1996 and serves Mediterranean cuisine.

The Food

• The scrambled eggs were fresh and had a nice creamy consistency. The addition of chilli and garlic really added some extra zing and made them standout
• The omelette was similarly made well using fresh free-range eggs, it was a lovely golden colour on the outside and full of delicious filling on the inside
• The French toast was topped sufficiently with berries and was delightfully sweet and tart at the same time
